Services Held
Services for Mr. Harry G. Kuiper of Pella were held November 11 at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Kevin Korver officiated with Rev. John Van Den Berg assisting. Rev. Harold Hiemstra officiated the family service. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Harry Kuiper was the youngest of six children that were born to Gerrit and Nellie Klyn Kuiper. He was born on February 23, 1916, near Otley. Harry attended the Liberty Corner Country School near Otley where he completed the 8th grade. As a young man, he worked as a hired farm hand for his brother, Dick, on his parent’s farm. On January 1, 1942, he was united in marriage with Marjorie Van Zante at the parsonage of the Third Reformed Church in Pella. To this union three children were born: Harris Lee, Loren Glen, and Barbara Kay. Harry and Marge moved to the farm west of Pella following their marriage where they lived for 32 years. In 1974 they moved in to Pella where they purchased their home at 1359 Broadway Street. Harry farmed his entire working life even after moving into Pella until he was 80 years of age. Then his health began to decline due to an accident. Since December of 1999, Harry had been cared for at home by his wife, Marge. On Wednesday afternoon, November 8, 2000, he passed away there peacefully at the age of 84 years.
Harry was a member of the Third Reformed Church in Pella where he had served both as a Deacon and an Elder. He had served on the Silver Grove Country School Board; as a Director for the Otley Cooperative Exchange in Otley; and most recently as a Hospice volunteer.
He is survived by: Harris L. and Margie Kuiper of Russell, Andrea Kuiper at home, Jana Kuiper at home; Loren G. and Anita Kuiper of Pella, Vincent Kuiper of Indianapolis, Indiana, Julie Kuiper of Oskaloosa, and her daughter, Ashlyn; Barbara K. and James Braafhart of Pella, Scott Braafhart of Ames, Matthew and Amanda Braafhart of West Des Moines, Jeffrey and Kristi Braafhart of Ankeny.
Harry was the last surviving member of his original family. He leaves just three sisters-in-law: Bess (Andrew) Kuiper of Pella; Edith (Dick) Kuiper of Otley; and Cora (Gradus) Kuiper of Pella; along with several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his oldest sister; four brothers.
