Services Held
Gerrit Kuiken, 76, of Lacona, formerly of Otley and Pella, died Friday, August 6, 1993, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held the following Tuesday at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.
The Rev. Ralph Menning conducted services and burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Memorials in his name may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are a son, Russell William of Nevada; a daughter, Clovie Ann Baty of Lacona; three grandchildren; three sisters, Anna May Meinders, Rose (Mrs. Marion) Monster and Joyce (Mrs. Martin) Sietsra, all of Pella; and two brothers, Jacob C. of Otley and Delbert of Demott.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alice Schippers.
The son of Cornelius J. and Della Van Zaee Kuiken, he was born August 18, 1916, in Peoria and grew up and attended school in the Otley area.
He served in the army during World War II.
He married Carol Maxine King in 1947.
Mr. Kuiken moved to Lacona in 1954 where he farmed. Later he was employed by Farm Credit in Des Moines for 30 years as a truck driver.
