Services Held
Services for Jerry Koder were held Monday, September 12, 2005, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Pastor Don Poole, Berean Assembly of God in Pleasant Hill officiated the services. Burial was in Dunreath Cemetery in Monroe.
Jerry Duane Koder, Sr., of Des Moines, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2005, at the Taylor House in Des Moines.
Born December 9, 1941, in Monroe, Jerry was the son of Elvin Leroy and Gwendolyn Catheryne Koder. He was a 1960 graduate of Prairie City High School. April 6, 1962, he married Dorothy Elaine Hudson at the Methodist Church in Prairie City.
Jerry worked for Rock Island Railroad for 21 years as a telegrapher. He belonged to the local and was division chairman of B.R.A.C. Union. He enjoyed playing on the computer, fishing, hunting, and going to the lake home.
Survivors are his wife, Elaine Koder of Des Moines; three sons, Jerry D. Jr. and Jill Koder of Pleasantville, Mark Koder of Des Moines, and Jeffery and Julie Koder of Monroe; two daughters, Catheryne and Bud Hiemstra of Newton and Stephanie Roam of Des Moines; 20 grandchildren; and 1 great-granddaughter. He also leaves a brother, Gene and Loran Koder of Baxter, Iowa; two sisters, Sheryl and Jim Ferguson of Newton and Sandy and Mel Davis of Newton; and his mother, Catheryne Koder of Newton. He also leaves several sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-law, mother-in-law, and father-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, 2 brothers-in-law, and 1 sister-in-law.
