Services Held
Services for Mary Elizabeth Kerns were held Wednesday at the Monroe United Presbyterian Church. Rev. Larry Gander, pastor, officiated the services. Burial was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. She passed away February 14, 1999, at Clearview Manor in Prairie City.
Born December 4, 1920, in Jasper County, Mary was the daughter of Edward and Leatha Barr Wolfe. She was raised by her grandparents, Jonas and Mary Barr. She was a lifelong resident of Jasper County, currently of the Monroe area. She married Ivan “Ike” Kerns July 3, 1948, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Mrs. Kerns had been the owner of Kerns Furniture, worked at PAG Seed Co. in Monroe, Midland Plastics, and Rineharts Drug Store. She was a member of the Monroe United Presbyterian Church.
Memorials in Mrs. Kern’s name may be left at the Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.
Survivors are her husband, Ivan “Ike” Kerns of Monroe; a nephew, James Wolfe of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward Wolfe, and Claudius “Pie” Wolfe.
