Life Story of Dea T. Kennedy
Funeral services were held Sunday for Dea T. Kennedy, 59, at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Cummings, pastor of the Morgan Valley Christian Church, and Rev. Warren McFate, Minister of the Monroe United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Monroe Silent City Cemetery.
Dea T. Kennedy, son of John and Della Powell Kennedy, was born in Marion County, Iowa, on May 25, 1911, and passed away April 16 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
He was married to Ora McDaniel on September 27, 1941, and to this union was born a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Linda) Walker of Lexington, Ky. Also surviving is a stepdaughter, Mrs. Kenton (Betty) Mick of Humboldt; and two grandchildren, Lori and Kent Mick.
Besides his wife and daughters, he is survived by three brothers, Carl of Prairie City, Everett of Loveland, Colo., and Loren of Pleasantville; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Nichols of Knoxville; and several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Kennedy lived all of his life in Marion and Jasper Counties and was engaged in farming for several years. Later the family moved to Monroe and he was employed at the Maytag Company in Newton.
He was a member of the Morgan Valley Christian Church, the Woodman’s Lodge in Newton and the United Auto Workers Union.
