Services Today
Services for Raymond George “Arky” Kane will be held Thursday, July 21, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Kane will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Kane, age 85, of Monroe died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at Nelson Manor in Newton from complications of diabetes.
Memorials may be given to the Monroe Fire Department, Monroe United Methodist Church, Hospice of Jasper County or Nelson Manor and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of George & Nettie (Zaayer) Kane, Raymond was born on September 29, 1919, in Fairmont, Iowa. On December 24, 1940, he was united in marriage to Betty Lee Phifer in Knoxville, Iowa. To this union three children were born. Raymond worked at Maytag and retired there after 31 years. He then worked at his own salvage business. A lifetime resident of Monroe, Raymond was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He joined the Monroe Fire Department in 1951, where he served for 54 years. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Prairie City, U.A.W. Local 997, Monroe Kiwanis Club and the Monroe Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed working in the junkyard as well as being with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren.
Raymond will be greatly missed by his three children; Paul Kane and his wife Gloria of Monroe, Judy Jenkins also of Monroe, and Dennis Kane and his wife Linda of Mesa, Arizona. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Preceding Raymond in death were his parents, wife in 2002, one brother, Doyle Kane, one sister, Alberta Van Baale and a son-in-law, Daniel Jenkins.
