The following obituary was read at the services:
Louise Birkenholtz Ammer, daughter of William and Lena Birkenholtz, was born two miles north of Monroe, Iowa, January 14, 1867, and died at her home in Monroe, February 3, 1932, at about 7:30 p.m., aged 65 years and 20 days.
She had been in poor health for a long time. The best medical attention could bring her but little relief. Seven and one–half months ago she was confined to her bed and gradually grew worse until her death. The immediate cause of her death was pronounced by her physician as hypostatic pneumonia, but contributory to this was an attack of cerebral hemorrhage in 1931, followed by another two weeks ago, together with high blood pressure.
On November 27, 1888, she was united in marriage to George C. Ammer, also of Monroe. To this union six children were born, two of whom died in infancy. The husband, who preceded her in death, died April 20, 1925.
She lived in this community all her life with the exception of about four years residence in north central Wisconsin.
About thirty–seven years ago she with her husband, united with the Fairmount Baptist Church. They were baptized on the night of the dedication of the Monroe Baptist Church by the pastor, the Rev. Wilson Mills. Later she became identified with this church and was a faithful member until death.
Left to mourn her departure is one daughter, Mrs. Edith North, of Monroe; three sons, Carl and Oscar, of Monroe, and William, of Grimes; three grandchildren, three brothers, John and Fred Birkenholtz of Prairie City, and Charles Birkenholtz of Ankeny. Her one sister, Mrs. Mary Ammer, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services were conducted at the home February 5, 1932, and later at the Baptist Church by her pastor, the Rev. J. M. Carlson, assisted by the Rev. A. d. Mohr, of Perry.
Interment was made in the Monroe cemetery.
