Mary L. Alley, 67, of 700 E. 21 St. Pl. S., died of cancer, Tuesday, Dec. 26, at Skiff Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton with Syd McCrorey, assistant pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Friends may call after noon Thursday at Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Hospice of Jasper County.
The daughter of Carroll and Nellie Gabel Kirk, she was born Aug. 6, 1933, in Evans. She married John R. Alley June 23, 1956, in Unionville, Mo. and was a homemaker. She lived in the Monroe and Newton areas since 1965. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Monroe and community Heights Alliance Church of Newton.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter and son–in–law, Susan and John Nichols of Adel; four grandchildren; four great–grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Gregory of Colfax, Agnes Sparks of Newton, Wilma Wyatt of Oskaloosa; two brothers, Willis Kirk and Carroll (Smiley) Kirk, both of Oskaloosa; and a step–son, Larry Shepherd of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, a sister and a brother.

Services for Mary L. Alley of Newton were held Friday, December 29, 2000, at the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. Pastor Syd McCrorey, Assistant Pastor of the Church, officiated the services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Born August 6, 1933, in Evans, Iowa, Mary was the daughter of Carroll and Nellie Gabel Kirk. She was a resident of the Monroe and Newton area since 1865. She married John R. Alley June 23, 1956, in Unionville, Missouri. Mary was a homemaker. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Monroe and Community Heights Alliance Church of Newton.
Survivors are her husband, John R. Alley; one daughter and son–in–law, Susan and John Nichols of Adel, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great–grandchildren. She also leaves four sisters, Helen Gregory of Colfax, Gloria Hunt of Newton, Agnes Sparks of Newton, and Wilma Wyatt of Oskaloosa, and two brothers, Willis Kirk of Oskaloosa and Carroll (Smiley) Kirk of Oskaloosa. She also leaves a stepson, Larry Shepherd of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cathy; a sister, Nellie Green; and a brother Kenneth Kirk.
