Charles O. Marshall, Retired Carpenter, Dies Here Sunday

Funeral services for Charles Owen Marshall, 79, retired carpenter and contractor, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Johnson-Murdoch funeral home. Mr. Marshall died at his home at 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

Born Jan. 6, 1874, in Athens county, Ohio, he was the son of Emory and Mary Marshall. He came to Jasper county at the age of three and spent the remaining 76 years of his life in the county. He had lived at 821 First avenue West, the home where he died, for the past 40 years.

Educated in Jasper county rural schools and Hazel Dell Academy, he was a carpenter and contractor here for 45 years. He retired four years ago.

Mr. Marshall married Mary Henning here Nov. 2, 1898.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Mozelle) Bruce, Mrs. Jack (Aileene) Madin, and Miss Maurine Marshall, all of Newton; two grandchildren, Merlyn Bruce, Newton, and Mrs. Leonard (Avonne) Lamb, Grinnell; a great grandson, David Bruce Lamb, Grinnell; a sister, Mrs. Valura Brock, Prairie City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Funeral sites will be conducted by the Rev. Allan K. Williams, and burial will be in Newton Union cemetery. Mr. Marshall was member of IOFF and The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton Iowa, August 17, 1953, page 1.
