March 15, 1932 ~ January 14, 2016

Duane J. Van Baale, 83, died on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Park Centre in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 3-4:30 p.m., Sunday, January 17th at the funeral home.

There will be a Private Family Graveside held at a later date at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to WesleyLife Hospice may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home please put, Attn: Van Baale Family on the envelope.

Duane Junior Van Baale, the son of Frank and Marie (Baker) Van Baale was born in Monroe, Iowa. He was a graduate of Newton High School.

On February 8, 1951, Duane was united in marriage with Betty J. Logue at the First Baptist Church in Newton. They were blessed with three children, Mike, Robin and Vickie.

Duane served his country in the U. S. Army from 1952-1954, during the Korean War. He worked as a production worker at the Parsons Company in Newton until they closed. He later worked as Realtor in Newton for 27 years and for the Newton Community School District.

In the spring and summer he and his wife enjoyed planting flowers, working in his yard and attending the grandkids' sporting events. In the winter they loved feeding and watching the birds and squirrels in the backyard.

Those left to honor Duane’s memory are his son, Mike (Linda) Van Baale of Newton; his two daughters:, Robin (Dave) Heck of Newton and Vickie (Rick) Elliott of Newton; six grandchildren, Risa (Brian) Ergenbright, Ryan Heck (fiancée, Jessica Higgins), Morgan and Caitlin Elliott, and Bryan Van Baale and Sarah (Dave) Davidson; five great-grandchildren, Riley Odem, Trey Davidson, Quincy Davidson, Carter and Farris Ergenbright; his siblings, Gary (Sharon) Van Baale of Newton and Donna Hill of Newton and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty in 2011 and brother, LeRoy Van Baale.
