Ruth “Mickey” Jones, 90, of Newton died on Tuesday, January 12, at Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, January 21, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital may be left at the funeral home.

Ruth, the daughter of Edward and Eva (Anderson) Murphy, was born on February 13, 1925 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. She grew up in the Emmetsburg area and graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School. Ruth was a homemaker and lived in Chariton for many years before moving to Newton two years ago. She enjoyed reading and playing scrabble. Ruth was also an active supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital and made hats, pajamas, and tote bags for the children there.

Ruth is survived by her children, Claire Detray of Mt Vernon, Washington, Douglas (Annie) Jones of Newton, Jeff Jones of Des Moines, and Roberta Jones of Chariton; grandchildren, Vanessa Jones, Steven Jones, Tony Atkins, Rava McLaine, Mellow Detray, and Michelle Ryder; great-grandchildren, Ian, Riley, Loki, Odin, Phoenix, Stone, and Richard; and her sister, Marge Murphy of Topeka, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Carl Farlow and Steven Jones; and a granddaughter, Megan Selby.
