Trula Lucille (Lewis) Fleener, 88, of Colfax passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14, 2016, at the Taylor House Hospice. Visitation will be on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax, IA. The funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Titus Lehman officiating. The burial will take place in McKeever Cemetery in Colfax, Iowa. A luncheon will be served after the burial at the Methodist Church in Colfax, IA.

Trula was born on November 20, 1927, in Jasper County, the daughter of George and Gladys Cordray Lewis. She was raised in Jasper County and was a 1945 graduate of Colfax Public School. Following high school, she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for five years during which time, she met Byron V. Fleener, Sr. They were engaged on her birthday in 1947, and then married on his birthday January 23, 1948; they were married 50 years before Byron passed away in 1998. Most of their married life, Byron and Trula lived in Altoona, IA where they raised their two children. After her children were in high school, Trula returned to work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. (later, U.S. West) and retired after 22 years of service.

Trula's faith in God was her guiding light and she faithfully served Him throughout her life. Her life revolved around God, fellowship with her spiritual brothers and sisters, as well her natural family. To her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Trula was the rock and matriarch of her family; she is loved and missed by all.

She is survived by a daughter, Trudy Goski of Colfax, and a son, Byron V. Fleener, Jr. of Mitchellville, IA; four grandchildren, Sarah Goski of Charlotte, NC, Laura (Steven) DuPont of Houston, TX, Jeb (Melanie) Fleener of Philadelphia, PA, Mac Fleener of Berwick, IA; two great grandchildren, Etienne DuPont and Delaney Fleener; three sisters, Helen Holdifer, Bertine Slegh, Linda (Bob) Wilson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Byron; five sisters, Mildred Kimberley, Virginia Hornback, Betty Jean Milligan, Georgina Bryant and Evelyn Kimberley; two brothers, James Lewis and Russell Lewis.
