KELLOGG - Rev. Robert L. Hinshaw, 68, of Kellogg died of cancer Wednesday, Sept 19, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ashton Chapel in rural Mingo with Pastor James W. Holmes of the New Testament Baptist Church in Des Moines officiating. Burial will be at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Hinshaw home, 110 Railroad In Kellogg. Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at their home or at the funeral home.

The son of Homer L. and Velma B. Johnson Hinshaw, he was born Aug. 23, 1933, in Iowa City. He graduated from Kellogg High School in 1952 and completed pastoral education classes at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. On June 13, 1952, he married Lois J. McNew in Newton.

Rev. Hinshaw worked for the Vernon Company for more than 40 years as a compositor/photo typesetter, retiring in 1995. He was the pastor of Ashton Chapel in rural Mingo for 35 years and the chaplain at Integrated Health Services of Jasper County. He was a member of Ashton Chapel for 35 years and a member of the UAW Local 997.
Survivors include his wife; five sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Debbie of Storm Lake, Terry and Pam and Tenny and Christy, all of Kellogg, Tracy Hinshaw and Bobbie Russie and Scott Hinshaw and Colleen Baker, all of Des Moines; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Robert Ball of Newton; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Joan of Newton; and a sister and brother-in-law, Bette and Hoy Modlin of Kellogg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. ~ The Hinshaw Family Association.

Robert Lawrence Hinshaw was born on August 23, 1933 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Homer L. and Velma B. Johnson Hinshaw.

He was joined in marriage to Lois J. McNew on June 13, 1952 in Newton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Garry and Jerry Hinshaw.

He is survived by his wife, Lois J. Hinshaw of Kellogg, Iowa; five sons and daughters-in-law: Tommy and Debbie Hinshaw of Storm Lake, Iowa; Terry and Pam Hinshaw of Kellogg, Iowa; Tenny and Christy Hinshaw of Kellogg, Iowa; Tracy Hinshaw and Bobbie Russie of Des Moines, Iowa; Scott Hinshaw and Colleen Baker of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter and son-in-law: Cindy and Robert Ball of Newton, Iowa; twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Joan Hinshaw of Newton, Iowa; and his sister and brother-in-law, Bette and Hoy Modlin of Kellogg, Iowa.

He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County, living in Kellogg and Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of Kellogg High School and completed pastoral education at the Northern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He was Pastor at Ashton Chapel in rural Baxter, Iowa for 35 years and Chaplain at Integrated Health Services of Jasper County.

He worked for the Vernon Company in Newton, Iowa for over 40 years as a Compositor/Photo Typesetter, retiring in 1995. He was Pastor of Ashton Chapel for 35 years and a member of UAW Local 997.
