Wayne Forrest Christy, age 93, formerly of 315 South Main, Albia died January 6, 2016 at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia.

He was born May 9, 1922 at Bucknell, Iowa (a mining town) in Monroe County to Orval and Eva (Forrest) Christy. He married Mary Bridges in Kansas City, Kansas on May 23, 1944. Mary passed away December 2, 1968 at the Ottumwa Hospital.

He graduated from Albia High School and was a lifelong resident of Albia. He served in the US Army for 3 years during World War II. After his military service he was so happy to be back in Albia that he actually sat down and cried. He retired from John Deere Ottumwa Works Quality Control in 1983 after 36 years of employment there. He was a member of Howard Cessna Post 136 of the American Legion, United Auto Workers Local 74, and Eagles Aerie 3583. Mr. Christy was one of the founders of the Albia Golf League

After his retirement he proudly served as a member of the American Legion Honor Guard that assists with the military burial rites for veterans. He enjoyed traveling with his old red suitcase, golf, fishing, gardening, his cozy recliner, and a cold can of beer.

He is survived by his children (Chris) Wayne Jr. and his wife Linda of Newton, Jon Steven of Pella, Kevin of Longmont, Colorado, 1 daughter Vicki and husband Jim Summers of Moberly, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. He is also survived by Mike Summers of Tucson, Arizona formerly of Albia. Mike came to Wayne's home as a boy when his mother, Yvonne married Wayne. Mike and Wayne formed a strong lasting bond.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary; daughter Elizabeth Ann; sisters Zola Christy Cochran and Shirley Brock Myers and brothers, George Hansel Christy and Danny Brock.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Tharp Funeral Home with Wayne's family present throughout.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Neil Montz Officiating. Burial with military rites provided by the American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose will be in the Oak View Cemetery in Albia.
