Those left to honor Garold’s memory are his son, Gary Hobbs (Lesley) of Newton; his daughter, Kim (John) Roode of Omaha, Nebraska; step son, Rick (Becky) Hewitt of Piqua, Ohio; special companion, Deb Bollhoefer of Newton; four grandchildren, Danielle Hobbs, Zack Hobbs, Christopher Roode and Patrick Roode; five step grandchildren, Heather Hewitt, Roxie (Mark) Anderson, Eric Hewitt, Adam Hewitt, Chad Hewitt; several great-grandchildren; his two brothers, Roy Hobbs of Montezuma and David (Bobbi) Hobbs of Kellogg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Margaret in 2003; step son, Chuck Hewitt; five brothers, Harold, Albert “Monk”, Robert, Kenny and Wiliam “Ike” and nephew, Ronnie Hobbs.

Garold graduated from Newton High School in 1959.

Garold was a fire fighter for the City of Newton for 28 years; he was a Captain on the department when he retired in 1996. He currently was co-owner of R & J’s Bar & Grill in Kellogg.

Garold was baptized at the Kellogg United Methodist Church and he was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. Garold enjoyed fishing in Canada, playing pool, hunting, just being in the outdoors, he loved giving family and friends a hard time and Garold was known for calling a spade, a spade.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League or Central Iowa Outdoors Without Boundaries or to the Kellogg Fire Department, they may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral home, please add, Attn: Hobbs Family on the envelope.

Burial Service
A Private Family burial will be held at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton at a later date.
