Mary Lois Vande Krol, 88, of Grinnell and formerly of Sully, died June 10, 2015. Funeral service was Saturday, June 13, at Sully Community Church. Memorials have been designated for the church's missionary fund.
Mary Lois (Schmidt) Vande Krol was born in Lynnville to Francis J. and Lenora May (Kooistra) Schmidt on Apr. 16, 1927. Mary Lois graduated from Lynnville High School and lived most of her life in the Lynnville-Sully area.
Mary Lois was united in marriage with Earl Vande Krol on May 23, 1945, in Oskaloosa. They were blessed with three children: Phyllis, Wes, and Marilyn.
Mary Lois was a member of the Sully Community Church and enjoyed many years of teaching Bible studies. She was an avid reader and librarian. She also enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, and sewing.
Those left to cherish her memory are: Her husband of over 70 years, Earl; children, Phyllis (Jerry) Hackert of Sully, Wes (Jaci) Vande Krol of Lynnville, and Marilyn (Mike) Hovda of Grinnell; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Fred (Helen) Schmidt of Lynnville; her sister, Norma Conover of Lynnville; and sister-in-law Rose Mary Schmidt.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Barbara Sexton; brother, Sam Schmidt; brothers-in-law, Bruce Conover and Bob Sexton; great-grandson, David Ellerbe; and great-granddaughter, Angela Hackert.
