Mr. William LeRoy “Bill” Peterson, 77, died Saturday morning, July 4, 2015, at Witham Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. He was born in Ogden on June 25, 1938, the son of late William M. and Glenden (Isley) Peterson.
Raised in Iowa, Bill attended Payton High School. He farmed early in his life and rode and broke horses until he joined the United States Navy in 1956 and served his country honorably until 1959.
He was married in Farrar, on Aug. 14, 1957, to Ann Claudette (Baldwin) Peterson. She passed away on Sept. 16, 2005.
The couple resided in Mitchellville and lived in Polk and Marshall Counties. During the period 1968-2003 they were residents of Marshalltown. They moved to live in Alexandria, Va. 18 months prior to their arrival in Lebanon, Indiana on March 1, 2005.
Bill farmed off and on until he began working at Sears as a service repairman. After 33 years of service, he retired in 1996.
He was a dedicated family man. He enjoyed model trains, fishing and hunting pheasants. He had a fondness for horses and enjoyed watching Western movies. He was an avid NASCAR fan and liked to cheer on Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
Bill was a member of Payton United Methodist Church in Payton.
Memorial Services will be held at the Farrar United Methodist Church in Farrar, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015, with Pastor Curtis DeVance, officiating. Burial of Ashes will follow services at Graham Cemetery in Mingo, Iowa. Myers Mortuary and Boone County Crematory have been entrusted with the arrangements for cremation.
Survivors: Three daughters: Cindy Thompson and husband, Jim, of Lebanon, Ind.; Denise Oetker, of Lebanon, Ind.; Elaine Rehak and husband, Tony, of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; seven grandchildren: Brandy App, Amanda Woods, Jon Thompson, Brad Oetker, Amber Eady, Ashley Rehak-Rawlinson, Brec Rehak; nine great-grandchildren; sister Millicent Adams and husband, Richard, of Fairmont, Minn.
In addition to his parents and his wife, William was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Mike Oetker.
