LeRoy DeReus, 88, of Newton died on Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 17, at the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax. The family will greet friends after the service with a luncheon at the church. Memorials to the Howard Street Christian Church may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

LeRoy, the son of Arie and Sylvia (Miller) DeReus, was born on July 25, 1927 in the rural Prairie City/Mitchellville, Iowa area. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. LeRoy served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

LeRoy was united in marriage with JoAnn Bonnett on March 10, 1950 in Newton. They were blessed with three children: Randy, Deana, and Kim.

LeRoy worked as a farmer and for the Maytag Company. He later worked at Winpower for many years and then for Farm Servcie. He was a member of the Howard Street Christian Church and enjoyed working on small engines and collecting toy tractors.

Those left to honor LeRoy’s memory are his three children, Randy (Dixie) DeReus of Kellogg, Deana (Terry) Lewis of Monroe, and Kim (Mark) Froah of Newton; four grandchildren, Jason Lewis, Lindsay (Travis) Landwehr, Lisa (Ryan) Braheny, and Ben (Emily) Froah; his four great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Victoria, Henry, and Emmy; brother-in-law, Dale Ross of Florida; his sister-in-law, Robinette DeReus of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn in 2012; sisters, Betty DeReus and Doris Ross; and his brother, Raymond DeReus. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 13 Dec 2015.
