Frank Miles Dies Today; Services Monday Morning

Frank J. Miles, 54, of 1806 N. 2nd Ave. E., a lifelong resident of Newton, died this morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Marvin Potter, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to organizations of the donors' choice.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. Sunday at Toland-Wallace Funeral Home. The casket will not be opened at the church.

Survivors are his wife, Lois; a son, Jeffrey of Bloomington, Minn., a daughter, Jo Ellen of Minneapolis, Minn., and a granddaughter, Alisa Shay Miles of Bloomington, Minn.

Also surviving are two brothers, The Rev. Robert S. Miles of Chester, N.C., and M. J. Miles of Tyler, Tex.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Betty Richmond.

Mr. Miles, a member of the United Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Elks Club, Maytag Speech Club and American Institute of Industrial Engineers.

An employee of the Maytag Co., he was a veteran of world war II.

Mr. Miles was past president of the local chapter of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers and vice president of region No. 11, an American Institute of Industrial Engineers. He received that Organizations's distinguished service award.

He served as scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop No. 353 for several years and served on the Camp Fire Board, receiving the Ernest Thompson award from that organization.

Mr. Miles also was a member of the Izaak Walton League and the American Legion.

The son of Sayre Judson and Icil May Shearer Miles, he was born Mar. 27, 1924 in Newton and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

He was married to Lois McFadden Dec. 25, 1946 in Newton. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 7 Apr 1978.
