Robert A. Cochran Dies Wednesday; Rites Saturday

Robert A. Cochran, 81, of 124 E. 4th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1920, died Thursday morning at the Skiff memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church.

The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Military services will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655 of Newton.

Friends may call at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home until noon Saturday and then at the church.

Survivors are his wife, Irene; his son and daughter-in-law, Earl W. and Alice Barton of Newton; two grandsons, Douglas Barton of Syracuse, N.Y., and Edward Barton of Killduff; four great-grandchildren; tow sisters, Mrs. David (Lillian) Reaves of Texas and Mrs. Edith McCormick of Temple City, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Cochran was a member of the First Christian Church, charter member of the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655 and a charter member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He had been employed by the Rock Island Railroad for 45 1/2 years, retiring in June, 1965.

The son of John and Lydia Stanley Cochran, he was born Oct. 15, 1896 in Carrollton, Mo.

He was married to Irene Barton Dec. 24, 1924 in Ottumwa.

Memorial contributions to the Christian Church building fund will be accepted. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly the Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 7 Apr 1978.
