Harold Birkenholz, 70, Former Resident, Dies in Albuquerque

Funeral services for Harold Merle Beirkenoltz, 70, of 205 Granceland, N.E., Albuquerque, N.M., a native of Monroe and former resident of both Prairie City and Newton, were held today at Strong-Thorne Mortuary in Albuquerque.

The Rev. Carl Scrimshire, of the Methodist Church conducted services.

Cremation was held after the services.

Memorial contributions to the charity of the donor's choice or to Emphysemia or the American Heart Association will be accepted.

Mr. Birkenholz died Thursday afternoon, Mar. 23, in Anna Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque.

Survivors are his wife, Vivian; three daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Donna) Schroeld of Palo Alto, Calif., Mrs. Bill (Jean) Otto of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. Douglas (Karen) Glover of Mobile, Ala., seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Mabel) Dalton of West Des Moines and Mrs. Carl (Edith) Jennings of Prairie City; and a brother, Howard Birkenholz of Mesa, Ariz.

Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parent, John W. and Dora Mae Eggerett Birkenholz, four sisters, Mrs. Willie (Lena) Biehl, Mrs. Gerritt (Sadie) Kersbergen, Mrs. Harold (Emma) Pendroy and Louise in infancy., a brother, Henry Birkenholz Sr., and a grandson.

He was born Oct. 3, 1907 in Monroe and attended schools in Jasper County.

He was married to Vivian Price Dec. 11, 1932.

He farmed in the Prairie City area until 1947 when he moved with his family to Albuquerque, N.M., where he worked in real estate.

The Birkenholzes moved to Newton for about two years, where he also worked in real estate, before returning to Albuquerque and continued in the real estate business until the last eight weeks of his life, when his illness required constant hospitalization. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 27 Mar 1978.
