Mrs. Lucinda (Murphy) Hummel died June 28, 1892, aged 64 years and 8 months.

In 1851, she came with her parents, brothers and sisters from their old home in Knox Co., TN to Mahaska Co., IA.

In January, 1854 she was married in Monroe to Louis Hummel, who survives her. To these were born six sons and three daughters, all of whom are now living and were present at their mother’s funeral, July 1. Mrs. Hummel was converted when a girl and united with the M.E. Church. During her long and useful life she remained a true disciple. In her home life she was greatly beloved by all. It was her constant care and study to promote the comfort and happiness of all about her. She was truly a helpmate to her husband, who is now left to mourn. Her children will miss the love and sympathy of the mother who has gone to her reward. In all her afflictions, she was fully resigned. She knew her life work was done and she was ready to depart. She expressed her confidence in the Savior, Jesus Christ as her only hope of salvation. Peacefully she passed away to her rest and her reward.

The funeral was held at her home in Monroe and was attended by a large concourse of her friends and acquantainces. Her husband and children hereby express their heartful thanks to all these friends who so kindly assisted and sympathized with them in their time of need.
