'Polly' Mason, Former Newton Resident, Dies

Mrs. Chester V. (Leah W. "Polly") Mason, 54, of Ida Grove, a former longtime resident of Newton, died Friday evening at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.

Dr. Edwin Frohardt, retired pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.

Survivors are her husband, Chester V. Mason, of Ida Grove, a son, Michael J. of Cedar Falls; daughter, Mrs. Michael (Maxine) Sandretto of Champaign, Ill.; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Lois) Holcomb of Auburndale, Fla., Mrs. Wilbert (Blythe) Clapper of Baxter and Mr. James (Eleanor) McGrane of Marshalltown; and her mother, Mrs. Virgil E. Smith Hennerman.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Mrs. Mason, who had taught rural schools in Jasper County, was a dedicated worker and taught in the retarded Children's School and had clerked in a Newton business for a number of years.

The daughter of Lee W. and Virgil E. Smith Henneman, she was born April 29, 1923 at Marshalltown and attended Marshalltown schools.

She was married June 28, 1942 in Newton. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 20 Mar 1978.
