'Bob' Allen, Former Newton Resident, Dies

Funeral services for Robert LeRoy "Bob" Allen, 52, of La Mirada, Calif., a former resident of rural Newton, were held recently in La Mirada.

Wallace K. Chum, pas fourth district commander of the Veterans of Foreign wars, conducted services. Burial was in the Olive Lawn Memorial Cemetery in La Mirada.

Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; three sons, Michael Dennis of North Hollywood, Calif., Patrick John of Grinnell and David Lee of Whittier, Calif.; a daughter, Pamela Marie at home; a granddaughter; a step-granddaughter; and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Strovers of Kellogg, Mrs. Margie Lewellyn of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mrs. Mary Emmert of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John William Allen Jr., in 1960.

Mr. Allen was general manager of Unimasco Corporation, a paint stripping equipment manufacturer in Torrance, Calif., where he had been employed for 27 years.

He had served for three years in the Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

The son of John and Zoa Daniels Allen, he was born April 9, 1925 near Newton.

He was married to Dorothy Cogley Oct 5, 1946 at Rhodes. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 17 Mar 1978.
