Bessie Garvin Dies Tuesday; Rites Friday

Mrs. John C. (Bessie Elizabeth) Garvin, 80, of 1005 W. 8th St. N., a longtime resident of Newton, died Tuesday evening at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Johnson-Reese Chapel.

The Rev. Ellis Ryherd, pastor of the Foursquare Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park cemetery.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. today.

The casket will not be opened at any time.

Memorial contributions to the Foursquare Church will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church.

Survivors are a son, Paul Davison of Phoenix, Ariz., seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her daughter in law, Mrs. Avonell Garvin of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1969; a son, Robert, in 1965; four sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Garvin, a member of the Foursquare Church, was baptized in March, 1969.

The daughter of Henry and Ida Davidson, she was born June 25, 1897 in Madison County.

She was married Mar. 12, 1918 at Van Meter. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly the Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thur 9 Mar 1978.
