Amos Dodd, 82, Dies on Sunday; Rites Wednesday

BAXTER - Amos Dodd, 82, of Baxter, a resident of Baxter since 1959, died Sunday at the Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter.

The Rev. Gary Hubley, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Boyd-Nickell Funeral Home in Baxter is handling arrangements.

Survivors are seven daughters, Mrs. Delos (Wilma) Middleton of Newton, Mrs. Donald (Irene) Pierce of Newton, Mrs. Alvie (Ruth) Baxter of Newton, Mrs. Cleora Allen of Arvila, Colo., Mrs. Lee (LoRena) Hart of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Darrel (Shirley) Dee of Baxter and Mrs. William (Emily) Griggs of Newton; and two brothers, Lloyd Dodd of Baxter and Ernest Dodd of Colo.

Also surviving are 33 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and three brothers, Clarence of Jewell, Roy of Mill Lacs, Minn., and John of Collins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers, a sister, a daughter, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

The son of John and Emma Halterman Dodd, he was born Sept. 23, 1995 at Colllins and attended Collins schools.

He was married to Alpha Luing Sept. 30, 1914 at Des Moines.

Mr. Dodd, who had farmed in the Baxter and Collins communities, also had been a automobile mechanic in Baxter and worked at the Maytag Co. from 1942 until 1959.
