Rev. De Koning, 84, Former Resident, Dies Wednesday

The Rev. Jacob De Koning, 84, of Pella Manor, a minister for more than 50 years, and a former resident of Jasper County, died Wednesday at the Pella Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pella Garden Chapel.

Dr. James M. Dennison will conduct services. Burial will be in Sully Cemetery.

Memorials to the American Sunday School Union will be accepted.

Survivors are his wife, Florence; a brother, Case De Koning of Prairie City, and three sisters, Mrs. Alieda Maasen of Rock Valley, Mrs. Jennie Harrselaar of Sully and Mrs. Kryn (Walterina) Van Zee of Sully.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Blanch, in 1952, a brother, Albert, and a sister, Elizabeth Veldhuizen.

He was a member of the Friends Church of Cleveland, Ohio.

Born July 16, 1893 in Marion County, he was the son of Aalbert and Johanna Geenen De Koning. He resided in the Sully and Lynnville areas as well as in Harvey and Peoria.

He farmed for 13 years before attending the Cleveland Bible College from which he was graduated in 1924.

He was a missionary of the American Sunday School Union for 35 years and observed his 50th year in the ministry in 1972.

He was married to Blanch Kitchen in 1920 and to Florence Wilson in 1953. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 24 Feb 1978.
