Bruce A. Schroder, 58, of Newton died on Sunday, October 18, 2015, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to Skiff Hospice may be left at the funeral home.

Bruce, the son of Herman and Erma (Jones) Schroder, was born on August 4, 1957 in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1975. Bruce was united in marriage with Mary A. Czerwiec on December 30, 1977 at the Methodist Church in Newton. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1978-1982.

Bruce and Mary lived for a short time in both Colorado and California before moving back to Newton 21 years ago.

Bruce worked at Marzetti’s in Altoona as a noodle maker supervisor for 19 years, retiring in 2015. He enjoyed painting models; cooking, especially smoking brisket; and going to his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. Bruce also loved spending time with his dogs and was known to take them around the block a time or two in the car.

Those left to honor Bruce’s memory are his wife, Mary Schroder of Newton; children, Veronica (Patrick) White of Newton, Bruce (Kristina) Schroder II of Nebraska, Melissia Schroder (Shawn Lane) of Newton, and Ray Schroder of Newton, currently attending Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa; grandchildren, Michelle, Vivian, Michael, Destin, and Sam; his sisters, Armenta (George) Buckingham of Des Moines and Pat Schroder (Bev Benfer) of Texas; niece, Mindy (Jason) Schildroth; and his nephew, David (Lisa) Schroder.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Schroder; mother, Erma Richardson; sister, Edith Buckalew; brother, Wilbur Schroder; brother-in-law, Basil “Buck” Buckalew; and a sister, Sandra, in infancy. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 19 Oct 2015.
