October 4, 1923 - October 15, 2015

Marion Calvin Van Zee, age 92 of Prairie City, left this life on Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church in Prairie City. The family will greet friends following the service at a luncheon in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be directed to the First Reformed Church in Prairie City or the Billy Graham Crusade. The son of Govert Antonio and Bertha (Beintema) Van Zee, Marion was born on October 4, 1923, on the farm near Prairie City. He graduated from Prairie City High School in 1940.

On August 4, 1948, he was united in marriage to Alma Elisabeth Gabelman in Prairie City. Marion farmed most of his life. Marion enjoyed hunting, fishing and serving his Lord through singing with Alma.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Mary (Robert) Crowley of Pueblo, Colorado and John (Kathy) Van Zee of Mitchellville; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a sister, Wilma Buitenwerf of Newton.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Alma; a son, Sherman and his siblings, Martin, Dick, Chester, Bill, Katherine, Harry and Raymond.~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa
