GRINNELL-Funeral services for Vaneta Hickman Rutherford, 93, of Grinnell, a former resident of Colfax, were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

The Rev. Lon Lewis, pastor of United Methodist Church in Grinnell, conducted services.

Burial was at the Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.

Memorials to the Grinnell Senior Citizen’s Center will be accepted.

She died Tuesday at the Friendship Manor in Grinnell of a pulmonary embolism.

Surviving is a step-daughter, Paulie Jackson of Tucson, Ariz.

Mrs. Rutherford was a member of the Pythian Sisters, the Farm Bureau and the Senior Citizen’s Center in Grinnell.

The daughter of Ulysses and Dora Hurst Hickman, she was born May 18, 1902 near Colfax and attended a rural Colfax school.

She was married to Charles Rutherford at Green Mountain.

The Rutherfords farmed southeast of Grinnell, moving to Grinnell in 1972. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, Monday, October 16, 1995, page 2.
