The Monroe Mirror
These obits were found in a yellow 3 ring binder at the Monroe Public Library. They have been typed by an unknown person & none of the 100 more or less pages contain the name of neither the newspaper nor the publication date. I am just assuming that they were taken from the Monroe Mirror.
ELI WOOD--Eli Wood, 75, retired farmer and life long resident of Jasper county, died at his home in Monroe at 6:30 am Sunday of a heart ailment and complications. Ill for several months Mr. Wood's death followed the development of pneumonia for which he had received treatment in the Skiff Memorial Hospital at Newton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 pm at Tool's Chapel Church with the Rev. Forrest Moore, former Tool's Chapel pastor officiating. A brief service will be held in Monroe at 1:00. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. One of a family of 11 children he was born Jan. 25, 1868 at Monroe. He was born in a log house four miles east of Monroe and at the age of 13 moved into another log house on a farm of 55 acres on which there were 5 log home. On Feb. 1, 1893 at Monroe, he was united in marriage to Ida Belle George and 9 children were born to the couple, of whom six are living; Mrs. Ray Broderson, Newton; Mrs. F.L. Guppaulrs, Newton; Mrs. Jake Berkenbosch, and Edmund Wood, both of Monroe; Mrs. Rena Reese, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Bertha Rose, Spokane, Wash; Mr. and Mrs. Wood had resided on a farm until 7 years ago when they moved to Monroe to make their home. Monday, Feb 1, the couple presided at an open house in celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary with all their children joining them for the occasion.
