Gladys Hickman dies Wednesday; services Friday

BAXTER Mrs. Walter (Gladys) Hickman, 85, of Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Baxter, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Wednesday evening at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Newton, will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today.

Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband July 20, 1968; a brother, Jack Sewell; and two sisters, Fay Lippet and Marie Johnson.

The daughter of Ward Edwin and Fanny Flock Sewell, she was born Dec. 23, 1895 in Baxter.

She was married Dec. 24, 1913 in Newton.

Mrs. Hickman had resided on a farm northwest of Newton until the death of her husband. ~ The Newton Daily News, Thursday, January 22, 1981, page 2
