Rites for Mrs. Pieper

Large Crowd Pay Final Tribute To Mother of Three Children

Final rites for Mrs. Juanita Pieper were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in the Toland Funeral home, with over 350 persons crowding the home and surrounding grounds to pay their respect. Mrs. Pieper, mother of three children, met death last Tuesday night, when she was fatally stabbed with a pocket knife by her former husband, Winston Pieper. Over 25 members of the Women of the Moose, of which Mrs. Pieper was a member, attended in a body.

During the services, A. E. Butron, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Moody, organist, sang “Going Home” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Pallbearers were Francis McDermott, Leslie French, Wilbur Broderson, Jule Raymie, Bert Cranston, and Murray Fee. In charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. Wilbur Broderson, Mrs. Jule Raymie and Mrs. Bruce Elingsworth and Mrs. Bert Cranston.

The Rev. Ralph A. Holmes, pastor of the First Congregational church, was in charge and interment was in the Newton Union Cemetery.

Juanita Hickman Pieper, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hickman of near Newton, was born here on Sept. 25, 1913, and lived all her life in Newton. She attended the Newton High school, graduating with the class of 1932.

She is survived by her parents and three children, Jelenne, 11, Tommy, 9, and Jimmy, 16 months. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa, January 19, 1946.
