MONROE - Norma Alene Vander Kieft, 90, of Monroe died of complications following surgery for a broken hip Thursday, Jan. 16, at Kavanagh House in West Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Monroe with the Rev. Harold Koughn, pastor of the Monroe United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe where the family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Monroe United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.

The daughter of Harold and Jennie Howell North, she was born Feb. 7, 1912, in Monroe. She was a graduate of Monroe High School. On Jan. 14, 1933, she married Dick Vander Kieft in Bethany, Mo., and was a homemaker. She was a resident of Monroe since 1978. Prior to that, she lived in Newton for 20 years and also in Park Rapids, Minn., Fairfield Bay, Ark. and for a short time in Sigourney. Mrs. Vander Kieft was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Monroe Women's Club. Forever Young Club and Ladies Auxiliary to VFW of Newton.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Jerry Sellers of Monroe, two grandchildren and three great -grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, two sisters and a nephew.

SERVICES HELD
Services for Norma Alene Vander Kieft were held Saturday, January 18, 2003, at the Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Rev. Harold Koughn, Pastor of the Monroe United Methodist Church, officiated the services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Norma passed away January 16, 2003, at Kavanaugh House in West Des Moines, of Complications following hip surgery for a broken hip.
Born February 7, 1912, in Monroe, Norma was the daughter of Harold and Jennie Howell North. She was a graduate of Monroe High School. She has lived in Monroe since 1978, and prior to that lived for 20 years in Newton. She also had lived in Park Rapids, Minnesota, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, and a short time in Sigourney. January 14, 1933, she married Dick Vander Kieft at Bethany, Missouri. Norma was a housewife and belonged to the Monroe United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Monroe Women’s Club, Forever Young Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary to VFW in Newton.
Survivors are a son-in-law, Jerry Sellers of Monroe and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, daughter, 2 sisters, and a nephew.

Funeral services for Norma Alene Vander Kieft, 90, of Monroe were held January 18 at the United Presbyterian Church in Monroe, the Rev. Harold Koughn officiated. Music was provided by organist Mary Jo Van Roekel.

Interment was at the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe. Casket bearers were Brian Van Roekel, Bradley Van Roekel, Brent Van Roekel, Wayne Schippers, Gary Schippers, and Todd Schippers. Honorary bearers were Gary Boliver and Howard Cowles.

Norma Alene Vander Kieft was born near Monroe, Warren Grove area on February 7, 1912, the daughter of Harold and Jennie Howell North.

A graduate of the Monroe High School, she was united in marriage to Dick Van De Kieft of Otley, on January 14, 1933 at Bethany, Missouri.

Norma was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Forever Young, Monroe Women’s Club and the VFW Auxiliary.

She lived in the Newton area 20 years and also in the Park Rapids, Minnesota, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas and Sigourney areas before returning to Monroe in 1978.

Norma passed away Thursday, January 16, 2003 at Hospice Kavanagh House in West Des Moines.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Jerry Sellers of Monroe; two grandsons and their families; as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Mary Ellen; and two sisters and a nephew.

Arrangements were handled by Walters Coburn Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Monroe United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
