REASNOR - Mary June Carnahan, 78, of Reasnor died of a heart attack Tuesday, Jan. 14, at her home.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Duane Skidmore of the Reasnor United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Hewitt Cemetery in rural Reasnor.

Friends may call after. 5 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Reasnor United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Gerald Ward and Gladys (Shee1er) Berkenbosch, she was born July 19, 1924, in Fairmount. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School in 1942 and received training in Iowa City to become a teacher. On June 12, 1946, she married Blake Edward Carnahan in Kansas City, Mo. She was postmaster of the Reasnor Post Office for 17 years and retired in 1988. She was a Red Cross instructor and volunteer and taught in the Jasper County rural schools before becoming postmaster. Mrs. Carnahan was a member of the Reasnor United Methodist Church, superintendent and Sunday school teacher of the Reasnor United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law Blake "Rick" and Carol Carnahan of Fairfield; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Carnahan of Altoona and Mary and Bill Sellers of Monroe; 10 grandchildren; three great -grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Joanna Berkenbosch of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter in infancy and two brothers.

Services Held

Born July 19, 1924, in Fairmount, Iowa, Mrs. Carnahan was the daughter of Gerald Ward and Gladys Sheeler Berkenbosch. She was a 1942 graduate of Newton High School. She also received her normal training in Iowa City, Iowa, to become a teacher. June 12, 1946, she married Blake Edward Carnahan in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the postmaster of the Reasnor Post Office for 17 years, retiring in 1988. She was also a Red Cross Instructor and volunteer.
