Barbara Ann Slycord, 64, died June 10, 2015, in Wichita, Kan. She was born Dec. 20, 1950, the daughter of Verlin and Betty Slycord.

Barbara married George Patrick Hanna in March of 1974. They later divorced in 1981. She graduated from Newton High School in 1969, as a B honor roll student. She spent two years in pep club and was an excellent art student.

Barbara worked as a legal secretary for Brierly, McCall & Girdner law firm through office practice class during her high school years. She held many jobs throughout her life and lived mostly in Iowa.

Survivors include her children, son Jason Hanna of Newton, daughter Elizabeth Jones Hanna (Steve) of Newton, son Brandon Slycord of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Rhonda (Vernon) Bloyd of Kahoka, Mo.; brother, Brian (Linda) Slycord, niece, Sydney and nephew, Shawn, all of Norwalk; stepfather Hughey Byers of Brookhaven, Miss.; a stepbrother; a stepsister; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and other relatives.

After her inurnment, a celebration of life with her family was July 25 in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa 19 Aug 2015.
