Kay Hodgson Stearns of Lake Jackson, Texas, formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2015. She was born July 1, 1921 in Des Moines, Iowa. She grew up in Newton, Iowa, graduated from Newton High School in 1939 and married Dale Hodgson in 1943. Together they had two children and were married for 23 years prior to Dale's passing in 1966. While in Iowa, Kay and Dale owned several businesses and Kay worked for the Governor of Iowa for 14 years. Kay later, met and married Bill Stearns and they moved to Florida, where Kay loved the sunsets, sailing, and being near her twin sister. After Bill passed away in 1989, Kay continued to live in Florida where she worked at a vacation rental agency. In 2002, she moved to Lake Jackson, Texas, to be near her two children. The last five years of her life, Kay lived at Revered Texan, an assisted living home. Her family would like to extend a sincere thanks to all the staff and to the A-med hospice nurses for their loving care.
Kay is survived by her son Bob Hodgson, and wife, Tammy, of Houston, Texas; her daughter Diane Flatland, and partner Joy, of Surfside Beach, Texas. She is also survived by four grandsons and five great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service in celebration of Kay's life was held at the Stroud Funeral Home in Clute, Texas on July 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., which was Kay's 94th birthday. In lieu of flowers, pleas consider a donation to your local animal shelter or to a charity of your choice.
A family Graveside Service was held at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton, Iowa on Saturday, July 25, 2015. Johnson Funeral Service was honored to assist the family with Newton Service & burial arrangements.
