CANTON, Mo. -- Mary Virginia Warner, 91, of Canton, passed away at 4 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 1, 2015) at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal. She was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Williamstown, a daughter of Roscoe and Susie Bell McNally Legg. She married Harry Warner in Canton in 1943. He died Jan. 5, 1985.

After high school, Mary went to cosmetology school and worked at Sutter's Drug Store in Burlington, Iowa; she remained in Burlington as a hairdresser. After she married Harry, they traveled with the military and she continued being a hairdresser for three years. When she had children, her focus shifted to raising a healthy family.

After raising her children, she worked at a campground in Sperry, Iowa, and later became a house mother for nine-and-a-half years at the Chi Omega sorority at Culver-Stockton College in Canton.

Mary loved her family and was so thankful for her healthy children and all the love in her family -- they came first in her life. She loved to cook, especially big meals for her family, and each child had a favorite dessert. Mary loved going to country music shows and loved music in general.

She belonged to the Lewis County Nursing Home Auxiliary and was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, traveling to Colorado, visiting with all her children, and entertaining and having friends over for food.

Mary's advice to others is to have lots of love for everyone and stay close together, especially with family.

Survivors include her four children, Steve Warner of Iowa City, Iowa, Gary (Julie) Warner of Burlington, Iowa, Jean (Owen) Jones of Superior, Colo., and Ray Warner of Newton, Iowa; grandchildren, Michael (Holly) Warner, James (Lisa) Eibes, Brandon (Wendy) Eibes, Natalie (Clint) McLaren, Tyler Warner, Ashley Warner and Kevin Jones; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Ryan, Jack, Luke, Carter, Harrison and Peyton; one niece, Susan Duncan; one nephew, Lonnie McHugh; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Annetta (Mac) McHugh; a brother, Harold (Doris) Legg; and two nephews, Timothy and Brian McHugh.
