GRINNELL – Wesley D. Meyer, 78, of Grinnell died on Friday, Oct. 17, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. David Wendel, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Newton officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

The son of Henry and Mary Blanche (Haynes) Meyer, he was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Grinnell. He was raised in a rural area east of Grinnell and attended rural school. During World War II he served with the United States Navy. Following the war he returned to the Grinnell area and farmed. He was married to Helen Ringgenberg on Dec. 23, 1982 in Grinnell. He was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Wayne Meyer of Grinnell; one step-son, Mike Gilbert of Marengo; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Beatrice Ingraham of Laurel, Maxine Crossett of Hampton, Va., and Helen Hall of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eva Young and Naomi Gropper; and three brothers, Clifton, Allen and Lyle Meyer. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 20 Oct 2003.
