DES MOINES- Mary Jane (Oliver) Van Houweling, 61, of Des Moines died Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Memorial services are pending at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thurs 23 Oct 2003.

DES MOINES – Mary Jane (Oliver) Van Houweling, 61, of Des Moines, formerly of Newton, died of primary pulmonary hypertension Wednesday, Oct. 22, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. At the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Tiare Mathison-Bowie of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton Officiating. Her body was donated to the University of Iowa. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a coffee time in the fellowship room at the funeral home. Memorials will be accepted to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association or to the Iowa Donor Network and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Azel ”Red” and Katie (Vance) Oliver, she was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1960. On June 10, 1960, she married Marvin L. “Louie” Van Houweling in Newton. She worked for the Meredith Corporation in Des Moines for 28 years and retired in 2000. She also worked in the offices of the Newton Manufacturing Company and the Maytag Company.

Mrs. Van Houweling lived in Monroe for years prior to moving to Des Moines in 1984.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Trina and Dirk Ludgate of Des Moines and Theresa and Chuck Rankin of Monroe; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Jerry Wylie of Newton; two sister-in-law, Marie Bos of Colfax and Eva Curtis of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, Don R. Van Baale and his wife, Marilyn, of Monroe; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson and a brother, George L. Oliver. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 24 Oct 2003.
