BROOKLEY – Eldon R. Sorensen, 74, of Brooklyn, formerly of Jasper County, died Wednesday, Oct 29, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. Burial will be at Kent Cemetery in rural Brooklyn.
Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Today at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established.
The son of Raymond and Leona (Schmoldt) Sorensen, he was born Dec. 22, 1928, in Galva. He was a graduate of the Galva High School. On Jan. 5, 1952, he married Jane Ellen Hassman. They moved to Newton in 1966, later lived in Kellogg and moved to Holiday Lake at Brooklyn in 1973. he was employed by the Vernon Company of Newton.
Mr. Sorensen was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kent of Brooklyn and Gordon of Denver, Mo.; a daughter, Susan Clarke of Newton; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gordon of Galva, Wendell of Holstein and Gaylen of Tempe, Ariz.; ad two sisters, Donna Else of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lavonne McAtee of Cherokee. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 31 Oct 2003.
