Lloyd C. Gafford, 81, of 500 1st st. N. died Wednesday, Oct 29, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. At the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Mary Schnepf of the First United Methodist Church in Newton officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. Until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where the family will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the Jasper County Historical Society or to the Willowbrook Adult Day Care Center and may be left at the funeral home.

The son of Norman C. and Nola Ethel (Fetchall) Gafford, he was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Goff, Kan. He was a graduate of Kansas State University. On June 28, 1969, he married Carolyn A. Huntrod in Colfax. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a methods engineer for the Maytag Company for 33 years and retired in 1987.

Mr. Gafford was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Newton Optimist Club and the Maytag Management Club.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Brad and LuAnne Gafford of Grimes; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Will Guy of Scottsdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Bochtold of Topeka, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Fri 31 Oct 2003.
