MONROE – Marie Lois Sowers, 91, of Monroe died Saturday, Nov. 1, at her home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 at the First Baptist Church in Monroe with the Rev. Jack McCullough officiating. Burial will be I at the Colfax Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday after 2 p.m. At the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe where the family will be available from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted to the First Baptist Church in Monroe.

The daughter of Nathan and Blanche (DeHaai) Kingery, she was born Nov. 12, 1911, in Marion County. She graduated from Monroe High School and attended William Penn University, where she earned a teaching certificate. On Aug. 10, 1937, she married James Sowers in Kahoka, Mo. She worked for several years at the Container Corporation in Illinois and also taught school. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Betty Kingery of Monroe; two sisters, Martha Tennant of Monroe and Catherine Ocker of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Samuel. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 3 Nov 2003.
