Gus Otcheck Dies Monday; Rites Thursday

A. F. “Gus” Otcheck, 84, of Rt. 1, Grinnell, a longtime resident of Jasper County, died Monday afternoon at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Grinnell.

The Rev. David L. Pikerton, pastor of the Oak Grove Friends Church, south of Grinnell, and the Rev. Tom Good of rural Grinnell, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery, south of Grinnell.

Memorial contributions to the Quaker Dale School or the Oak Grove Friends Church, will be accepted.

Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell is handling arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Eunice; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Carl (Rose) Shockey of Chillicothe, Mo.,; three grandchildren, Margaret Otcheck of Grinnell, Mrs. Junetta Johnston of Grinnell and Mrs. Barbara Otcheck of Sioux City; and a sister, Mrs. Carroll (Cecil) Ver Steegh of California.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Henrietta Altig in 1917; two sons, Robert R. in 1972 and Arthur in 1925; a brother and a sister.

He was a charter member of the Westfield Grange, a longtime member of the Farm Bureau and a member of the Oak Grove Fiends Church.

The son of Fredrick and Ann Schnell Otcheck, he was born Feb. 18, 1893 south of Grinnell in Jasper County and was educated in Jasper County schools.

He was married to Henrietta Altig Dec. 25, 1913 and to Eunice M. Fowler Feb. 6, 1923 at the parsonage of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell.

Mr. Otcheck had resided on the same farm for more than 50 years. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Tues 14 Feb 1867.
