William Burnham Dies Tuesday; Services Friday

Westfield Community – William T. Burnham, 72, of Rt. 2, Grinnell, a resident of the Westfield Community located on the Jasper-Powshiek County line, died Tuesday at the Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Friends Church in Grinnell.

The Rev. John R. Cwirn, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Howard Lord, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Milo, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell after 6 p.m. Today.

Survivors are his wife, Velma; a son, Robert of Grinnell; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Gladys) Iverson of rural Grinnell and Mrs. Edgar (Doris) Willer of Knoxville; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mrs. George (Inez) Swisher of Newton.

Mr. Burnham was a member of the First Friends Church of Grinnell and had attended the Westfield Church.

Mr Burnham had been a farmer, carpenter and painter in the Lynnville, Murphy and Grinnell areas.

The son of William and Nora Wildman Burnham, he was born May 5, 1905 near Lynnville and attended Jasper County rural schools.

He was married to Velma Stanley Feb. 1, 1928 at Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, 23 Nov 1977.
