MONROE – Funeral services for Ethel B. Reed Breen, 81, a longtime resident of Monroe, were held today, Jan. 28, at the Monroe United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Jerry Mc Gee, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Larry Wheatcraft of Des Moines, conducted services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Memorials to the Monroe Emergency Fund will be accepted.

Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe handled arrangements.

She died Friday at the Pella Community Hospital.

Survivors are four daughters, Blanche (Mrs. Chuck) Crews of Newton, Margaret (Mrs. Junior L. ) Klein of Monroe, Anna Mae (Mrs. Merle) Vickroy of Knoxville and Henrietta (Mrs. Allen) Spoelstra of Monroe; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers, a son, Bert, and a great-grand-daughter.

Mrs. Breen had been employed at Duncan's Cafe in Monroe.

The daughter of Lee and Lydia Ann Smith Reed, she was born July 15, 1909 in Polk County.

She was married to Bert Breen Oct. 27, 1926. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Mon 28 Jan 1991.
