Resident's Mother Died March 10

Mrs. Manford Earl (Margaret) Hicks, 93, of Newton, died Sunday, March 10, at the Pleasant Care Nursing Home at Pleasantville.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Dr. Richard Bentzingetr, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Memorial Park.

Memorials to the Jasper County Hospice will be accepted.

Survivors are two sons, Earl Hicks of Baxter and Lawrence Hicks of San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Orland (Margaret) Bender of Pleasantville, Mrs. Robert (Marie) Bender of Rockaway, Mo., and Mrs. William (Betty) Shafer of Newton; 32 Grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is a sister, Velma Huff of Eldorado Springs, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971, an infant daughter, three grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, three sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Hicks, a member of the First United Methodist Church, had worked in several restaurants in the Newton area.

The daughter of Willis Ferdinand and Mahela Margaret Graham Huff, she was born Aug. 28, 1891 in Eldorado Springs, Mo.

She was married Nov. 9, 1911 in Nevada, Mo. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa March 1985.
