Gerald Madison, 94, of Iowa falls, a former longtime resident of Colfax, died of congestive heart failure Wednesday, January 1 at his home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.

Mr. Madison was born October 18, 1902 in Seevers, the son of Jake and Mable Oliver Madison. He attended Colfax Community Schools. He married Margaret Rose Toney in Colfax in 1918.

A resident of Colfax until just a few years ago, he was a coal miner and later a maintenance worker for the River Oaks Manor in Colfax where he worked several years.

He is survived by a son and sister-in-law, Dave and Marie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Mable Madison Smith of Silver Springs, Md.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Margie Madison of Chicago, Ill, and Beatrice Madison of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Stilgo "Bing"; four sons, Walter, Sr., Robert, Johnny and Royal; and one granddaughter. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thurs 9 Jan 1997.
