Death Claimed Mrs. Maud Schroyer Friday

Mrs. Maud Schroyer, 81, died of a sudden heart attack Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. at her apartment in the Colfax San-Hotel. She had been in her usual health prior to Friday and while suffering from a heart condition for many years her death came as a shock to her many friends in this city. Mrs. Schroyer had been in the business section during the day and after becoming ill, returned to her apartment in the Hotel.

The daughter of E. P. and Mary J. Carter Gilliam, she was born in Dubuque, Iowa, July 26, 1876. After spending much of her younger life in and around that city, the family moved to Ira, Iowa, in 1905, where they lived on a farm. Mrs. Schroyer was united in marriage to Joseph A. Schroyer June 14, 1908 at Ira, and in 1920 she and her husband moved to Colfax to make their home. She has been a resident of this city the past 37 years. Her husband preceded her in death in 1936.

Mrs. Schroyer was a member of the Christian Church, and a past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge of this city. Her pleasant manner and charm won for her a host of friends, both in Colfax and her former homes and she will be missed greatly by all.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mrs. A. M. Petroske of Steger, Ill., several cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, Dec. 16th, 1957 at 2:00 o’clock, from the Christian Church in this city with Rev. Neville G. Clayton, pastor of the church, officiating.

Music was furnished by Mrs. Geo. Rinker, soloist with Mrs. Lee Schmitt, organist.

Bearers were Chris Jensen, C.L. Graham, Paul Jones, Charles Elliott, Howard Bell and W. J. Lowry.

Flower committee, Mrs. Mary Hadsall and Mrs. W. J. Lowry.

Burial was in the McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Thurs 19 Oct 1957
