Clarence Yowell

MONROE - Clarence E. Yowell, 73, of Monroe, owner and operator of the D M Dress Club for approximately 30 years, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 26, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec, 29, at the Monroe United Methodist Church.

Dr. Otto Steele Jr., pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.

Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Daisy; four step-children, Dennis Karlzen of Hartford, Conn., Karen Starret and Kristine Grimm, both of Des Moines, and Larry Karlzen of Monroe; nine step-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Wayne (Laurel) Wagaman of Prairie City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, the former Agnes Ross, in 1964, two brothers and four sisters.

Mr. Yowell, a member of the Monroe American Legion, was an Army Veteran of World War II.

Mr. Yowell had been fire chief of the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years.

The son of I.J. and Della Jenks Yowell, he was born Jan. 4, 1911 in Prairie City and was graduated in 1929 from Prairie City Community High School.

He was married to Daisy Springer Nov. 21, 1964 in Des Moines. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, Iowa Dec 1984.
